Ramya Krishnan was born on 15th September 1967, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She comes from a Tamil Iyer Brahmin family. Her uncle is Cho Ramaswamy, who is a comedian. Krishnan is trained in Bharathnatyam and Kuchipudi. She married director Krishna Vamsi in 2003 and they have a son called Ritwik.
